In 1993-4 the Area structure was again changed. Eight Areas became five, but the officer in charge were Assistant Commissioners, who also each had responsibility for various Scotland Yard functions (Public Order, Vice Licensing; Traffic, 24-hour response, Air Support, River policing, Specialist Dogs; Criminal Justice policy; Crime Investigation; and Community Relations & Partnership). 69 Divisions then became 62 Operational Command Units with some delegated budget functions. Some new police stations replaced more than one former station (eg Belgravia progressively replaced Gerald Road, Cannon Row and Rochester Row)
